1. What's New?

My cats Priscilla and Terry are both doing well. Priscilla had to go to the vet, but she's fine now. She'll tell you more about it in her column below. Terry is still hurtling round like a whirlwind but he's not as naughty as he was - he's stopped jumping on the kitchen worktops and scratching the sofa now, so that's a big improvement... He's nearly 6 months old now so I'll be getting him neutered next month.

I've added quite a few pages to the website this month. I've added a few pages to the cat care section of the website, including:

How to clip cat claws
How to clean cat ears
How to keep house cats happy

I've also added another page to the cat health advice section on common causes of cat hair loss.

I've added a page where you can ask a vet online about any problems or concerns you may have about your cat. This is an inexpensive service which is really useful if you need some non-emergency advice. I've used it and have found it to be really good.

I've also added a search this site page, where you can just type in any subject you're interested in and it will provide a list of relevant pages. This is often easier than surfing round trying to find what you're looking for.

Finally, I've added a page called Share This Site. I'm trying to grow the website, so if you have any friends who you think would like it, I'd really appreciate it if you could share it with them.

If there's anything you'd like me to write about on the website that I haven't done so far, please feel free to contact me via the form on the website - I'm keen on writing about things people actually want to know / read about, so any suggestions are very much appreciated.

2. Priscilla's Column

Hello! If you're new to this newsletter, let me introduce myself. I'm Priscilla, the real brains behind the Cat Behavior Explained website. My mummy writes it, but she'd never manage it without my help. If you've read my column before, hello again!

Well, Mummy has bought us a brand new cat tree! Here's a picture of me and Terry on it. We like playing on it, especially fighting for the top spot. Terry likes hiding in the box bit on the first level. It's got a hole in the top, he sticks his head out and I see if I can smack him before he can disappear again.

Our tree arrived packed flat in a big box and me and Terry helped Mummy put it together. She said she put it together 10 times faster with our help (or did she say she could have put it together 10 times faster without our help, I can't quite remember...)

I had to go to the vet this month - yeeeeeuck! Every now and then my skin gets really scratchy and I need an injection to make it better. The injection I got this time made me throw up - double yeeeeeuck! Mummy wishes I'd thrown up on the kitchen floor instead of on her bed... I really can't see what difference it makes where I throw up, can you? Sometimes I think Mummy just likes to moan for the sake of it...

Mummy says she's taking Terry to the vet next month to get nuttered. I've no idea what this means, sounds interesting though.

See you next month!

4. Why do Cats..?

Why does my cat try to wash my face, hands and hair?

Cats groom, lick and wash themselves as a stress-buster, as well as doing it to keep clean.

One of the earliest things a kitten remembers is being washed by its mother. It experiences and remembers this - like purring - before it can even see. It's a nice memory which is re-envoked when the cat grooms itself.

For the same reason, cats groom each other as a sign of affection. You can see where I'm going with this, can't you... Kitty licking you is his way of saying he likes you and accepts you as a fellow feline. So the next time you smell that fish breath in your face, remember - it's a sign of affection!

5. Just for Laughs

I found a couple of funny cat videos this month. I've put them on the website - if you click the link below then scroll down the page to videos 3 and 4 you can watch them.

Funny cat videos

I especially like video 3, which shows a cat having an argument with a printer. I can't remember the number of times I've felt like doing what that cat is doing to my printer...

<>, I really hope you've enjoyed this edition of Kitty Chat. I'd love to hear your feedback, comments and suggestions for future content, so please feel free to click on this link and contact me using the form.

Meow until next month!

Take care,
