1. What's New?
Christmas is approaching at an alarming rate and as usual I'm totally disorganised. No doubt I'll be doing the usual dash round the shops on Christmas Eve that every year I swear will be the last...
Priscilla and Terry are OK. I've had Priscilla at the vet this month as her skin problem flared up again, but thankfully she's on the mend now. I want to try and make sure she's completely well before the holidays.
I've added some pages to the website this month which I hope you'll find useful. The pages on the various illnesses are ones that people have asked for.
How to Draw a Cat - Step by step guide on drawing aat and some easy to follow videos for drawing cartoon cats and portraits of cats.
Cat Leukemia - Commonly asked questions. This page existed before but I've expanded it to include some extra information that people have asked me about.
Feline Leukemia Symptoms
Feline Leukemia Treatment
Feline Leukemia Vaccine - Commonly asked questions
Feline Sneezing - What are the causes? When should you be worried?
Common Cat Skin Problems - An easy to follow guide
Finally, here's a page I wrote a year ago but is relevant again now and worth a look!
Christmas Cat Hazards - some of the main dangers for cats over the festive period and how to avoid them.
2. Priscilla's Column
Hello! If you're new to this newsletter, let me introduce myself. I'm Priscilla, the real brains behind the Cat Behavior Explained website. My mummy writes it, but she'd never manage it without my help. If you've read my column before, hello again!
Here's yet another picture of my brother Terry... I've told Mummy I'm a bit fed up of his picture being on my column but Mummy said he looks cute on this picture, and she hasn't been able to get one of me with my eyes open this month... The problem is, it's so boring having the camera continually clicked in my face I can't be bothered to open my eyes...
Terry has been up to his tricks again. Last month you may remember he jumped into the toilet. This month it was the kitchen bin. There was a tin of tuna in there (nearly empty, we'd eaten the rest) but Greedy decided he wanted it, and Mummy had left the bin lid a bit open - BIG mistake...
Terry jumped in head first and the lid shut on top of him. I would have meowed to get Mummy but I was too busy splitting my sides laughing. Anyway I didn't need to call Mummy this time, the noise as the bin appeared to dance round the kitchen by itself was enough to bring Mummy running in.
Mummy took the lid off the bin and Terry jumped out, covered in smelly rubbish. He ran off, kicking and spraying bits of old food around as he went. Guess where he ended up? Yep - in the shower again! Mummy told me off for calling him Pongo...
He's now telling everyone he was swallowed by a cat eating monster but managed to escape. I though I owed it to the world to tell the truth...
Have a purrfect holiday and see you in 2010!
P.S. I wrote the poem below. It's about me. I hope you like it...
3. Poem by a Former Stray Cat
I normally write an article in this section, but because it's Christmas I thought I'd do something a little different.
Hope you like this poem... It starts sad but has a happy ending!
I was a gorgeous blue Persian kitten,
I had a full pedigree,
I went to live with a family
Who promised to look after me.
I got loads of love as a kitten,
They made a big fuss out of me,
But as I grew up they lost interest
They had no more time for me.
My lovely long hair got all tatty,
My skin got all blistered and sore,
My eyes and ears got dirty
And they just didn't care any more.
One day my owner grabbed hold of me,
And put me in the trunk of his car,
It was dark and I was really scared
He drove and drove very far.
He stopped the car eventually,
I didn't know where we were,
He threw me out and left me,
I was battered and bruised and hurt.
I wandered around for days,
I was hungry and tired and sore,
I ate scraps of food from the bins in the street
I just couldn't find any more.
I was sitting outside in the rain,
When a lady took pity on me,
She was kind and friendly and gentle,
She took me in, dried me and fed me.
She said I couldn't stay,
Because she already had cats,
But she took me to a nice shelter
And I was so grateful for that.
The shelter called me Kiwi,
My skin was all sore and hot,
My fur, eyes and skin all got treated
I was spayed and got all my shots.
I thought no-one would want me,
I thought I looked a real fright,
But then my new Mummy came in,
And it was love at first sight.
She brought me home as soon as she could,
We didn't like the name Kiwi,
So we changed it to Priscilla,
I think it really suits me.
That was four years ago now,
And I'm happy as can be,
My fur is gorgeous, I'm admired and adored
And it's all worked out well for me.
There are too many cats like me,
As kittens we're loved and adored,
But when we grow up and we need lots of care
Our owners just get bored.
If you see a cat after Christmas,
Who looks like she's not got a home,
Please find out if she's lost or thrown out,
It's no fun having to roam.

Priscilla mentioned earlier I haven't been able to get a picture of her with her eyes open this month... Hence they are closed on the video!
