Female Kitten Names Ideas - Calamidy

by Lauren Kay
(Oklahoma City, OK)

A long time ago, my friend had a dog named "Calamity". I always remembered the spirit of that dog, she was caring, funny, and very independent. Anyway, when a beautiful calico cat appeared on the doorstep of my apartment on a cold, New Year's weekend, I couldn't say no to her.

I always remembered that dog and this cat has a lot of that spirit. I live in Oklahoma and Calamity Jane was a cowgirl with a independent spirit.

The reason her name is spelled that way is because the vet receptionist and I did not know how it was suppose to be spelled. Hey, her nicknames are CJ and Dee.

Comments from Liz (editor): Thank you for sharing your story - doesn't matter if her name is spelled wrong, and I'm sure she doesn't mind either... I bet she's just really grateful to have been rescued by you!

You've given a couple of good ideas for thinking up male or female kitten and cat names - if the cat reminds you of an animal you've known and liked before, or if they remind you of a famous person past or present that you admire you could be on to a winner!

Abby

by Ann
(Memphis, TN USA)

About 3 years ago, I adopted a 3 month old Tabby-Mix kitten from a local shelter, who was very sweet and friendly.

While trying to think of a name for her, I was reading about the "Dear Abby" newspaper column one day (that was featured in many newspapers in the USA for several years, until the author's death). And it hit me -- "That's it! Abby -- such a sweet name, just like the kitten I have."

And there you have how I came to name the cat that lives with Rudi and me. (I've previously sent a contribution on how I came to name him, so I refer you to that contribution under male kitten names if you'd like to know how I came to name him). Ann

Comments from Liz (editor): I think Abby is a lovely name, and your inspiration came when reading the paper! This is a good idea if you're struggling to think of a name - one thing the paper is never short of is names, any of which could become a name for a pet! The best ideas sometimes pop up when you least expect them.

Here's the link to Rudi's page and the story of how he got his name.

Thank you so much for sharing how you named Abby and Rudi - they are both lovely names and sound very nice on their own or when said together.

My female kitten's name - It Bit

by Terry
(NC, USA)

It Bit is a grey tabby. She was only 3 weeks old when she lost her mother. She was so small we thought she was only an "it bit" of a kitten. She would sneeze and fall over! She was so young we had to bottle feed her.

She will come when you whistle for her or flash the porch light. She loves to play on the computer and chases the arrow around the large monitor we have; more than once she has hit a key and made the computer do crazy things!

She loves to sit on the top of the tall desk chairs, she can run and jump and land on the top of them. She loves to ride in the car, when she was about 3 months old we took her from NC to Kansas city MO - about a 24 hour drive and she was great!

She will jump in the truck whenever we go somewhere, one of her favorite places is DQ to get ice cream! Whenever we are eating she thinks she has to have some too.

She's not so much of an It Bit of a cat any more but we still like the name and still think it suits her.
