Strange Meow Like Noises
Lola ( baby girl )
My cat problems are that my kitten has just started making this really strange noise. Its not like her normal meow and she only does it when nobody is in sight. She is an indoor cat as we live close to a main road I thought it was because she wanted to go outside.
She has started to do at night aswell. As she has the run of the house and tends to sleep with me and my husband she is waking us up with this insane noise!
I was wondering if she was maybe coming into season but she is still young (I think - she was a rescue cat). I believe she is about 6-7 months old.
Please help me! Thanks.Reply from Liz (Editor):
I think you've hit the nail on the head - I'm pretty sure these cat problems are happening because your kitten is coming into heat.
Female cats usually reach sexual maturity and go into heat for the first time when they're around 6 months old. However, some can go into heat for the first time when they're as young as 4 months old.
One of the classic signs of a female cat in heat is excessive, persistent yowling (or caterwauling as it's sometimes called). Basically she's calling out for a mate, and it doesn't surprise me she's doing it at night. She probably does want to get outside at the moment - to party with the local boys!
Other signs of heat include increased affection, standing with the back legs straight, front legs bent and tail in the air and spraying. She may not be showing these yet, but I think it's only a matter of time before she does.
She'll carry on doing this frequently until she's spayed. My recommendation would be to get her booked into the vet for spaying as soon as you can. I'm pretty sure this will solve these problems.
Many thanks for your question and for the lovely photo - she looks extremely cute!
